Let’s dive in!

In this episode, we chat about:

[8:18] Why is Pinterest such a powerful tool for marketing online businesses?

  1. Pinterest is a search engine, not a social media platform. On Instagram and Facebook, you have to be noisy and always striving to stand out for attention. On Pinterest, people are actually searching for specific things, so if you understand how to use keywords correctly, your posts are what will show up when people are searching for things specific to your business.

  2. Many people on Pinterest are ready to buy whatever it is they are searching for.

  3. Pins last a lot longer than a Facebook or Instagram post.

  4. You can use Pinterest to build your email list for FREE, and your email list is something that you alone own. It can’t get shut down or hacked or altered.

[10:19] What are the factors of a powerful pin that can stand the test of time?

You have to have a solid image AND the right keywords in order to create a powerful pin.

When it comes to the image, your goal is to stop the scroll. Use bright colors and big, bold font. An exercise you can do to see what works: take out your phone and start scrolling your own Pinterest; which images grab your attention and why? Start creating pins based off of that.

The second factor that will help your pin perform well is the description.

  • When you upload a Pin, you will be asked to add a description to it, and that’s where you want to use your keywords. They need to be very specific, not generic. A long-tail keyword (a phrase) is usually more effective. For example, instead of “weight loss” (super generic and therefore hard to rank) think of longer phrases someone who wants to lose weight might be searching for: “Intermittent fasting for women”, “keto peanut butter fat bombs”, etc.

  • Be conversational in your description, but weave in your keywords.

  • Include a Call to Action at the end: “Repin and come check out the recipe!”

[13:00] How much time do we need to dedicate to Pinterest marketing?

Pinterest is the least time-consuming platform. It’s one of those things that you will spend some time getting set up correctly initially, and then the maintenance is very easy. You could spend an hour/month focused on your Pinterest strategy and see results!

[14:15] What steps do we need to take to get started?

Have a plan and start with the end in mind. Where do you want to lead your customer? What kind of content do you need to have on your site to lead your potential customers to the end goal? What is the freebie that you can create that will entice your website visitors?

Make sure you’re niched down enough. Use GoogleAnalytics to figure out the most popular posts on your site, and start to narrow in on them.

Create 5-10 boards (you don’t need a million!). Use keywords in your board description and only upload relevant pins to that board.

[16:20] How often should we be pinning?

Set a goal of pinning at least 5 times per day. You can use Tailwind to schedule your pins out so that you don’t even have to actually be on Pinterest to do this.

When you create one piece of content, you can create several different images that correspond to that one post. You can test out different designs to see what performs best.

You don’t have to be solely pinning your own original content. You can share other people’s content too.

[21:12] Best Practices

  • Be consistent

  • Optimize your blog for your client journey: what’s the next step?

  • You don’t have to be a “great writer.” Be conversational, be real, use your keywords.

  • Make sure you are overdelivering in the posts you are sending traffic too. You want to wow them and get them wondering how else they can learn from you!

[23:15] How quickly can we expect to see an ROI on our Pinterest marketing efforts?

Rachel has had students triple their sales within 60 days!! If that’s not convincing you to give it a try, I don’t know what will!
