Ep# 125: Leveraging Social Media to Grow Your Brand + Business with Whitney Eckis
We all want to do it, but it stresses us out… leveraging social media to grow your brand and your business!
One minute we’re all hyped up about going all in on getting some social media traction and the next minute we’re sitting there totally bummed because we’re still hearing crickets on what we thought was a great post.
So what are the secrets?
How do you beat the algorithm?
What’s the deal with hashtags?
How do you increase engagement?
What’s the best way to show up in your DMs?
And how do you stay ahead of the curve with social media when it’s always changing?
We have Whitney Eckis, founder of Eckis Marketing, on the show today! She’s been perfecting the practices of growing brands and businesses in the digital space for over 6 years.
If you want to see that growth, attract the right people and feel less stress when it comes to building your brand on social, this is the episode for you!
In this episode, we chat about:
Which social media platform is the best for business?
Where is your audience? What type of content do you like creating? The answers to those two questions should be the driver behind where you spend the most time.
You don’t have to be on every platform. In fact, it could hinder your growth if you try to be present on every platform and spread yourself thin. Whitney advises us to stick to our core 2-3 platforms.
What are the biggest mistakes people make trying to grow their biz through social?
Quality is king. You could be churning out 12 blog posts per week, but if your content isn’t engaging and useful, you won’t see growth. Don’t post just to post, make sure you are sharing value.
Is it worth worrying about the Instagram algorithm?
The algorithm is a blessing and a curse. It has done so much to encourage authenticity on the platform, but it can be a huge headache when you do have the best of intentions and you aren’t seeing the reach and engagement you want.
It can be really difficult to play the game of Instagram, but at the end of the day, just keep coming back to your purpose of engaging your core audience, whether that’s 5 people or 14k people.
Where should we put our energy when it comes to Instagram engagement?
There are so many strategies being taught, but it doesn’t have to be complicated. It all comes down to interaction. How do you like to interact? Don’t force yourself to post fake comments for the sake of engagement. Find a way to interact that feels authentic and fun to you, and stick with it.
Do hashtags actually matter?
Hashtags do matter! Hashtags can drastically increase your reach and engagement, especially now that we can follow hashtags. Your post could land in the feed or the explore page of your ideal client who otherwise may never have heard of you.
Do market research:
Look at what your top 5 “idols” are doing with hashtags. Are they using any that are relevant to you?
Utilize social media schedulers. Many of them include a feature that allows you to search for relevant hashtags.
What’s the deal with third party tools?
Make sure to read up on Instagram’s guidelines. As long as you aren’t breaking any rules, you won’t be flagged for using a scheduler.
Whitney recommends:
Later to schedule your posts
Snug to lay out your feed
Unfold to curate your stories
If This Then That app to push posts to different platforms
