Ep# 141: You Need These 4 Things to Stand Out in 2021
The clock striking 12 at the end of 2020 is not going to guarantee that anything is going to be different in 2021.
You, on the other hand, will be that driving force for change in your life. To expect anything else is a guarantee for disappointment.
So what can you do now to set yourself up for success? To have this WILD and unprecedented time period be the thing that raises you up?
I’ve spent 10 years trying and failing and tweaking my game plan, and I’m sharing some of these lessons with you today! Tune in to hear the 4 things you need to do to set yourself apart from your competition in the new year!
In this episode, I chat about:
Find yourself a mentor
You can’t see the label from inside the bottle.
You need someone that can hold up the mirror for you and teach you both the pitfalls that they’ve personally been through and also help you to see potential upcoming pitfalls for you based on your weaknesses, your struggles, your past. There are just so many pieces that we often can’t see in ourselves.
This was the difference maker for me.
Get yourself a squad
A mastermind is so special because you get to build so many connections and relationships. And when you’re in the right mastermind, many of these new connections will lead to partnerships and referrals and this will truthfully change your business.
And look - I get it. I’m the type of person who thrives working independently. I don’t love joining groups, and the last thing I want is to feel obligated to check in regularly with a bunch of strangers. I thought that’s what a mastermind was, but I couldn’t have been further from the truth.
The year I joined my first mastermind was the first year that I hit 7 figures in my business. I had been trapped at the same number in my business for a couple of years at that point. It was the year I landed my two biggest speaking gigs. It was the year that I built scalability into my business so I could REST.
Map out a solid plan
Most people come into a new year/phase of their business with a goal in mind:
“This year I’m going to hit $500k in my business.”
“I’m going to write a book this year,”
“This is the year I finally hire a team.”
Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to have goals. But just setting a goal isn’t going to do anything other than make it into a wish. You have to have a PLAN for how you are going to get there.
If you hit $100k in sales last year and this year your goal is $500k, you need to figure out how to bridge the gap.
We use these 3 steps (APS) with our clients to help them come up with a realistic and actionable plan in their business:
Alignment. How do you know what goals to even set? Take into account your values and your long term vision.
Prolificacy. How do you intend to shine in the process? How will you consistently show up as a leader? How will you become known for what you do? Maximum impact in minimal time.
Scalability. Scale for true freedom. Create a strategy to build a legacy.
Develop the leadership skills necessary to build and sustain your dream business
For many years after I got started in my business, I was investing solely in skills and strategy courses. I didn’t want to hire a leadership coach, I wanted to hire a marketing coach. I wanted something tangible that felt controllable.
While solid skills and marketing strategies are important, they will only help to a certain extent. At some point, your leadership skills are what will take you to the next level.
There’s a version of you that even you have not met yet. The world needs that version of you!
