Ep# 149: How to Use Your Intuition in Business
We’re doing some major shifting in our company this year.
In this episode, I want to share some of the “How” and “Why” behind the ways in which we’re choosing what direction we go in. It’s really normal in entrepreneurship to get stuck in Go Mode. We forget to stop and project out into the future a few years and make sure we’re in alignment with our goals and mission and the life we’re living in the day to day to get there.
So while our company isn’t necessarily pivoting, we are infusing our next level of our calling into our brand, and I’m excited to share that with you in real time as it plays out.
I’m going to give you a peak behind the curtain into our business today, but I’m also going to help you figure out how to use your own intuition to grow your business. I’m sharing the (sometimes messy) process I go through to make decisions in my business, the pitfalls I have made in the past, how to really begin to trust your gut, and how to plan for the long game so you’re not constantly having to rebrand or change your business model.
In this episode, I’m chatting about:
Building your business based on your long term vision
Where are you today?
Where do you want to be in 10 years?
What stands between those two versions of yourself?
What skills do you need to develop?
Do you need to hire a team?
How much profit do you need to make?
Do you need a mentor?
The real meaning of Alignment
Sometimes, when people want to “stay in alignment,” they think that means saying yes to whatever feels good in the moment.
But that’s not alignment. Sometimes alignment puts you in a situation where you are going to be stretched and exhausted and deep in the mess.
Our culture has misinterpreted what alignment means. You are not being called to do only what’s easy or what feels good.
I know that what we are infusing into our brand this next year is going to make me wildly uncomfortable and push me to grow in new ways, but it’s still a decision that is rooted in alignment with my long term vision.
The simple question that I use to help myself figure out if something is in alignment is: Does it feel heavy or does it feel light? This doesn’t always mean hard vs. easy, but how does it make me feel in my heart?
Figure out what you need in this season
Sometimes focusing on the long term goal does mean focusing on the Now as well. If you know your business isn’t going to be afloat by this time next year unless you start to bring in some real profit, then that needs to be your focus in this season.
Some categories to consider:
Profitability
Visibility
Freedom
Prolificacy
At the end of the day, you do you
I was on everyone’s email list and I was looking at industry leaders on social media and saying, “I love how they do this!” But all of this comparison was really just dragging me down and dulling my creative spirit.
So I started to tune out the noise and stop consuming. I fell back in love with my business when I stopped watching others and just started creating in my own way.
Play the long game, think about what you want for the long hall, and start to chip away at what needs to be done today to get to that future level.
