What Lorraine does differently
The first thing is, she doesn’t cut corners, ever. She builds really strong foundations that are rock solid. That way, when something new happens, like the iOS 14 update that has thrown paid ads into a tailspin, she doesn’t have to worry, just adjust.
The second thing, she is all about content marketing. She loves to create content: blog posts, podcasts, videos, live streams, etc. Lorraine is all about providing free value, and because of that, she gets half a MILLION views each month on her website.
Success in business is all about building a foundation and then putting content out into the world, and those are the two things Lorraine sees most people struggle the most with. Often these people quit or pivot because they aren’t seeing success. In order to build a business that lasts, you have to stick with it.
Playing the long game
So many business owners think that if their journey to success doesn’t happen quickly, almost instantaneously, then they might as well throw in the towel.
But true success often takes time and a lot of hard work. And not everyone wants to hear that. Doing it quickly and easily is the more attractive sounding path.
True content marketing
The principal of true content marketing fits right in line with the idea of building for the long term. If you’re doing it right, you should be putting thoughts and ideas out into the world that you know are truly serving and valuable, not just something that you think may serve you. This is one downfall of social media and vanity metrics.
If your content hits just one person in the heartstrings and changes their life, isn’t that enough?

Lorraine also encourages business owners to always be updating their content to make sure it’s still relevant and helpful. You want someone to read your stuff and think “Wow, that was so helpful! I wonder what else she has to teach me…”
What kept Lorraine going in the beginning
At first, Lorraine’s business was just something she thought of as a hobby. She was still working a 9-5 for a while. But when she returned from maternity leave after her second baby, she felt like she was ghosted. She is from the UK where they have a 52 week maternity leave policy, and when she returned to work, there just wasn’t any work for her! She was still getting paid, but didn’t feel like she was doing a job.
So she threw herself into her business and began marketing more and seeing growth. She quit her job shortly after that to pursue her business full time and she threw herself into it.
The tipping point for her was when she started showing up consistently on video!
Personal growth along with business growth
“I have really had to change who I am in my business, in terms of confidence. I feel like in the beginning, I wasn’t the CEO. In fact, I think it’s taken me 6 years to get to this stage…[where] I feel like I am the CEO. That has been a massive shift, and I’ve had to grow hugely along the way.” -Lorraine
Once you start to see real success, you start to see your own power and worth, and that changes everything. But the only way you get to that point is by doing it when you don’t feel powerful or worthy of the success.
