How to Grow your Business in 9 Steps
Picture this: you’re hustling for this vision you have for your life and you have big goals you want to achieve. But one day you look back at the past five years and wonder why you aren’t where you said you would be five years ago.
You realize now that maybe when it comes to scaling your business, you have no idea what to do.
I get that. I lived that. It was a whole lot of hustle with my head down only to look up and see I was off course. That’s why I knew I had to pivot, and I paid attention to the process so I could teach others how to get out of the rut I was in.My methodology for scaling your business, income, influence, and time freedom will help you get back on track so you can stop chasing your goals and start crushing them. To do this, we are going to breakdown the nine principles of scaling, first.
Principle #1: Be a Visionary
Before we can dive into how to scale your business, we have to determine what “scaling” looks like in your life and identify whether or not you’re actually living it.
Imagine your life when you’ve gotten your business to the place you want it to be. What does it look like? What’s your daily routine? Are you able to go on dream vacations? Are you working shorter days? Are you able to get those monthly massages?
Look at the vision you have for your future and ask yourself:
What do you actually want out of life?
What is the one thing you desire most in your life?
How do you want your days to look?
How much money do you want to be adding to your bank account on a regular basis?
What type of house do you want to live in?
How do you want to feel every day?
Now imagine what it takes to get to that spot. Too often we find ourselves comparing our success to other business owners, when we really don’t know the amount of time and effort they are putting into their business behind the scenes, and then we give up.
It’s time to truly understand what it takes to scale your business so that you are prepared for the level of work it will take, but also realize what your life could look like once you get to that place you’ve always dreamed of.
A successful business owner uses their vision to fuel their desire to grow their business. It’s what helps them get out of bed each day. It’s what gives them hope during those late night work sessions. The business owner that has a vision and is intentional about growing into the business owner that can achieve those things builds a business that is sustainable and scalable. They are confident in the path they are on and are inspired with what they do; they know they are making a greater impact and that’s what pushes them through the hard days.
But here’s the thing: I’ve seen plenty of people build businesses that they thought they wanted, but as a result they are sacrificing their time and freedom. They have this goal of having time to do more of the things that they love, but they will never get there because of the way they built their business.
So before we can do anything else, we have to create a vision for our lives so that as we continue we can build ways to execute that vision.
Principle #2: Optimize Your Vitality to Operate in a Peak State
If you look at the top performers in your industry or in the entrepreneurial space, they make their overall health a priority so that they are operating at peak levels. This isn’t something they necessarily started out doing. They were like you, hustling, focused on their goals, thinking, “I don’t have time to workout or focus on me right now.” But then they reached a level in their business where they were faced with either improving that area of their life so they could scale their business to the level they needed, or staying stuck where they were. Their health and fitness becomes a non-negotiable aspect of their lives because they know it’s going to translate to increased energy, productivity and sales.
Principle #3: Invest in Personal and Perpetual Growth
In order to grow your business, you need to invest in continuous education. This doesn’t necessarily have to be business-centered. Maybe you want to know more about how to have a fulfilled marriage. Maybe you want to be a better parent. Maybe you’re looking for ways to better utilize social media to grow your business. Whatever the case may be, don’t stop learning. Successful entrepreneurs and business owners understand that they can never have too much knowledge and they never stop taking the opportunity to learn new things.
Principle #4: Create Time Freedom
In order to scale any area of your life, you need to know and understand what you have the space for. When you create time freedom, you’re giving yourself that space you need to be creative, to rest, to learn, to invest in your relationships, your health, and for any other category of your life that you feel is important.
Also, by leaning into the right business model versus the one-to-one model, you allow for more time freedom.
Principle #5: Be a Leader
In order to truly live a life of growth, you have to become a leader. You have to identify and understand what it means to be a leader in your field. The best leaders are constantly growing and learning. They are listening to podcasts, going to seminars, absorbing as much education as possible and then, they take that education and they start to live it, breathe it, and shift their habits to be the most effective leader possible. They wake up earlier, eliminate certain habits that prevent them from reaching success, and they fully embody what it means to lead.
Principle #6: Be a Maverick
A Maverick doesn’t operate by the same standards or ideals as the rest of the world. They are not okay with mediocre, they think differently, they perceive the world in a different light, and they step into new heights in their life because they’re able to see things differently than everyone else. They may be mocked for it in the beginning, but ultimately, they are revered for their confidence and their approach. Mavericks think outside of the box, allowing them to create a ripple effect and build their legacy.
Principle #7: Generate Wealth
A successful entrepreneur or business owner generates wealth for themselves. A big portion of growing your business is about creating a path to true wealth in both your finances and your life. A business owner uses their skills, experiences, knowledge, and creativity to monetize their ideas and grow them into a thriving business. Or they invest in others who are doing something incredible. But they don’t stop at just direct sales from their business. They work to create passive income streams so that they can work less while also increasing their income. They aren’t just creating a business to make money, they truly believe in the business they own and it fuels their hearts and their minds, while also allowing them to create a life of freedom.
Principle #8: Understand Resilience
When you are faced with a problem, what do you do? Do you seek a solution? Do you complain? Do you struggle? Do you just walk away? Do you wait for someone else to fix it?
You have to become confident in your ability to take a situation and figure out a solution. You have to recognize that failure is normal and it’s going to happen, but failure doesn’t define you. You will struggle and you will have to make sacrifices, but that’s normal. A successful business owner can take those struggles and use them as information to grow, not as a way to define who they are or diminish their ability to be successful. They don’t worry about falling when they make a mistake because they know they can get right back up.
Principle #9: Leverage your Relationships
Finally, in order to grow your business and reach that level of success that you’re looking for, you need to leverage your relationships. Surround yourself with other visionaries, maverick thinkers, and people who are actively living a “Scaling Up” life. Recognize that you aren’t the smartest person in the room, but surround yourself with the people that are. Everywhere you go, you should be actively looking to connect with other leaders so that you are continuously growing. Don’t build your dream in a vacuum. You can’t step into your greatness if you don’t have anyone around you to hold up a mirror for you. Lean into your community, connect with others, and let them help you grow to the next level in your life and your business.
I hope this helps you grow
