Episode# 009: Repel Marketing- Connect With & Convert Your Ideal Client
A lot of times when we first start marketing our brand, business, product or service we think that casting a wide net is what we need to do to be successful. I did it! I wanted everyone to like me, but in trying to reach everyone, I was connecting with no one!
In this episode we’re talking all about the power of repel marketing and why it works to help you find the RIGHT people that will actually convert into YOUR people.
Spending time marketing to and attracting the wrong people wastes your time, resources, money and most importantly, your energy! But when you can pinpoint that ideal customer or client, you’re stepping into a new level of scaling up possibilities in your business and your income!
If you try and reach everyone, you’ll connect with no one.
When I started my business, I tried to continually cast a wide net. I couldn’t bear the thought of pushing anyone away. I was generic. I wanted everyone… AND HONESTLY…It slowed me down and I wasn’t valuing my time or more importantly, my energy! More turnover, more returns, more headaches, more work, no money spent. I was more concerned with having everyone like me over the right people working with me. I used to take on anyone with a pulse and HERE’S WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF YOU DO THE SAME:
-You’ll run into more problems finding people that won’t ultimately convert or purchase from you… (these people AREN’T you’re people…they are only looking for FREE)
-You’ll continually get clients who aren’t on the same page as you. They will be complainers, self-sabotagers, or want results without doing the work - and it will be a TOTAL DRAIN and most of the time…they’ll just end up quitting on themselves anyways
So here’s what YOU CAN DO…
1. know exactly who YOU want to work with and why - ideal avatar
-Know your ideal client ahead of time
-Look at your top 5 clients and write out what makes them so great to work with
-Look at the ones that have been soul sucking that you wish you didn’t have to work with, what about them do you dislike
2. Why repel?
-I call this buck marketing
-I ran an ad that brought in hundreds and hundreds of prospects, but almost NONE converted but required a significant investment to run the ad and a lot of my time to follow up with each person
-SO I ran another ad speaking directly to my ideal client
-DON’T BE TIMID to share things like pricing, or mentioning that this will be hard work!
-It’s not your job to convince someone to do something they don’t want to do, you want to inspire the RIGHT people to do what they’ve always wanted to do, but needed you to take that next step
-Talk about what your ideal client would understand - what they might be going through and how you can help!
3. How can you do more of this?
-Understand and master your own voice and use the language that would connect with your ideal person
-When I’m hiring for my mentorships, Coaching programs, courses - I always make it clear who is this for and who is this NOT for
-ALWAYS be transparent and honest
-Talk about what your ideal client would understand - what they might be going through and how you can help! Speak to and relate to their pain points!
It can definitely feel like you’re going against the grain when you start implementing repel or buck marketing, but I challenge you to do it consistently for a month in your advertising, when you speak to prospective clients, share your story, use social media and in your email marketing and see how good it starts to feel!
