Ep# 159: My Journey to Health + Healing, Pt. 3

Hello, World!

Elizabeth Hartke

I’m reporting to you with one less tooth in my head! It’s been one heck of a week. At the time of this recording, I’m exactly one week and two procedures out from my tooth extraction.

I have a lot to share, but I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect to be in the position I’m in today - talking is very painful. But this is worth stretching myself a bit to share this journey with all of you.

So this is the 3rd and final part of this 3 part series of my health and healing journey, until more time passes and I’ll do a follow up episode to share how far I’ve come months from now.

Today you’ll hear the unexpected complications I’ve faced and am facing, the wisdom I’ve gleaned from this, and how this relates so directly to building a sustainable and growing business.

Bear with me if I sound funny, I feel like my face has been put through a meat grinder.

On that lovely note, let’s get to the show!

I have to kick off today’s episode yet again with gratitude for all of you and those of you who have reached out with kind words, prayers, stories of your own health and healing and things you’ve done and tried that are worth my looking into. It overwhelms me every time!

My experience thus far…

I received numbing only for the extraction procedure, meaning I was awake for the full thing.

I ended up having an ankylosed tooth, which means the root of my tooth was permanently connected to my jaw, and therefore very tough to remove.

When the numbing wore off that night, all hell broke loose.

Because of the ankylosis, the pain I was feeling was extreme.

The doctor is great and he really respects my wishes to heal without medication, so he sent me home with magnesium, manganese, ozonated water, and food grade hydrogen peroxide.

I woke up swollen the next morning and the pain had intensified, but by day 3, I looked like Buzz Lightyear and the pain was off the charts.

I had to go back in to get the swelling drained and natural treatments to help with the swelling: ozone treatments, bio stim and laser therapy.

But even in the early stages, amidst all this turmoil, I’ve had a few very assuring indicators that this tooth really was a cause of problems in my body.

For the past few years, I’ve had:

  1. Red, swollen patches over my lymph nodes and chest

  2. Swollen glands in neck

  3. Swollen eyes and dark bags

  4. Knee pain nightly

And all of these things have started to improve already!

Things I’ve been doing for healing:

  • Daily Epsom salt baths and mouth rinses

  • Sauna 10-15 minutes, 4-5 times per day

  • Rest

  • Only eating clean foods

  • Lots of hydration

  • Bone broth

  • Vitamin C upped

  • Vitamin D upped

  • Magnesium upped

  • Essential oils for pain, especially clove and peppermint

  • Silica

This is all a process.

Was it worth it?

Of course!

I don’t make choices in order to avoid pain. Pain is to be expected. It’s a part of the process.

I see this all the time in my line of work with mastermind members: they are trying to dance around pain:

  • If I let this employee go, it will lead to a painful conversation and then the pain of having to find someone new. So I avoid it.

  • If I commit to this fitness program, I’ll be so sore, and experience the pain of early mornings to get it in, and I hate feeling so tired.

  • If I make that pitch, I’ll potentially experience the pain of rejection, so I’ll play small and only create offers that allow me to stay behind the scenes and protect me from that pain.

Pain isn’t the choice, it’s a symptom of growth.

Pain is a part of it. And trying to avoid it all together leads to one guarantee: a mediocre life, at best.

People choose the pain of familiarity over the pain of the uncertain, even if the pain of familiarity leads to the greatest pain of all: Regret. Regret is an avoidable pain.

So yes, I would do all of this 10 times over if this is the path to my healing.

If I made choices in avoidance of feeling pain, I wouldn’t have kids, I wouldn’t be married, I wouldn’t have my businesses.

What area of your life are you avoiding making the choices that will cause you pain but that are the choices you need to make to get to your next level?

When you’re pursuing something great, there are journeys you must walk through that can’t be ignored.

One of those things is recognizing the vessel through which you’ll accomplish those dreams.

And that’s not to say that vessel - your body - has to be perfect. Some of you may have health conditions that won’t allow for complete optimization. But optimizing and honoring what you have to work with and prioritizing your health are two things possible for every person, no matter their reality.

Are you running the show from a body that is able to tap into its next level? That’s ready for it’s next level?

Or are you just on autopilot and hoping that’s good enough?

Are you learning to advocate for yourself in all things, including your health?

I believe in playing the long game in life and business.

Too many people seek out the quick and easy → Yeah yeah yeah, I’ll become a better version of myself later, but first show me the winning strategy to grow my business or make more money. Grow my email list. My social. Land the speaking gig.

But are you cutting corners? Is there something more to the process that you’re ignoring as you build your business?

I’m playing the long game in my health and in my business because it’s what will build them both to last. Strength in foundation, not a deck of cards.

And it comes with pain and sacrifice, words most people cringe at, but I see them as opportunities and indicators of growth.

Because I do believe in having actual data beyond just symptoms, I’ve had hair analysis testing, blood work, hormone testing and neurotransmitter testing all done prior to this procedure, again recently, and I will again in a few months to see how things change. I promise to come back with more updates on the progress!
