Ep# 187: What's Next... for Me AND You
My listeners here on scaling up have been so supportive of me since the day I launched this podcast at nearly full-baked pregnant in the dead of the most oppressively cold winter here in Wisconsin.
It’s been harder than I expected to wind down this show to gear up for what’s next.
But today, I wanted to tell you a little bit more about where my heart is being called and why I’d love for you to come along for the ride!
Today’s episode is full of gratitude and will give you a glimpse into the future…
Let’s get to the show!
In this episode, we chat about:
The beginning of Scaling Up
When my family decided to move to Wisconsin, I had just found out I was pregnant with our 3rd.
I was terrified and sad to be leaving my family on the east coast.
I developed a pelvic condition during my pregnancy that caused me to be in a lot of pain and have trouble walking.
I was about 37 or 38 weeks pregnant as I was recording the first few episodes of Scaling Up from my closet. It was so hard to catch my breath because my belly was so big that I’d have to stop after every few sentences to try and breathe (my poor editor!)
But my heart called me to create this podcast.
Following your heart
Although I’m not the most popular at what I do, one thing I’ve always been great at, not even on purpose but by God’s design, is following my heart.
I want to remind all of you listening that sometimes where your heart will lead you isn’t perfect. It isn’t the end all, be all. It’s not the answer. It’s just the next step so you can keep moving in your journey toward where you’re being called.
If you’re being called to something and hesitating because you want to get it “just right” or make sure everything is all T-ed up because that’s where you’ll land forever, you’re doing yourself and your purpose such a great disservice.
Just go. Even if it’s not the right thing forever, it will guide you closer to it.
Answers come to those who take action.
What lead me to here
I’ve been in the business strategy and marketing space for a decade. I know this stuff. I’ve helped countless entrepreneurs and small business owners transform their businesses and subsequently, their lives, through strategy.
But in the last two years or so, as I was trying to figure out what differentiated me, the great question for all of us, I realized that it wasn’t my strategy that was so unique. It was my ability to see in someone else what they couldn’t yet see themselves, and then to draw out and cultivate the leader in them.
I would see these incredible entrepreneurs, successful by all measurable standards, still feeling inadequate or feeling like something was missing or feeling called to whatever was next, but unsure what it meant or what it would look like.
These entrepreneurs were successfully bringing in hundreds of thousands, even millions of dollars each year, but they felt disconnected from their family.
They were launching incredible programs, but they had no freedom because they were still trapped in the weeds of their businesses.
They were hiring people, but experiencing frustration or turnover because their hires weren’t invested in them or their mission.
It finally clicked that the gifts in myself that I took for granted were exactly what the world needed.
The real issue in entrepreneurship today
Strategy is important and necessary, but it’s not everything. It will only get you so far.
It’s not a strategy issue we’re facing, it’s a leadership issue. Leadership is:
When your purpose and work are completely aligned.
When you’ve elevated out of the weeds of your business and are in that leadership role to inspire and guide.
When you are present with your family while running a successful business.
When you have a team that is so invested in you and your mission that your company grows with or without you present.
When you know, without hesitation, why you’re here and your legacy is being created as you live out that calling.
Because I see leadership both as the missing link and the way forward for many entrepreneurs, I felt called to do something about it.
This will be a movement
This movement is not just for us, but for the next generation, too. It’s for the little leaders who are being affected by how we’re doing entrepreneurship of today - the ones who think mom’s phone is more important than them or believes, by dad’s example, that their worth is tied up in productivity.
Although we’re still a few episodes away from the big reveal of what this new company is called, I can tell you this…
We are launching a company that is going to disrupt the entrepreneurial industry.
We have a podcast launching with it that will become the home for industry leaders who are saying, “But what’s next?”
We are bringing to life programs, conversations and community for entrepreneurs and even kids who are ready to step into true leadership!
And I can’t even take full credit for any of it…
Because I woke up one day and the Lord made it so clear to me that this was where I was being called.
This message is two-fold
First, THANK YOU for walking alongside me through two of the toughest but most inspired years of my life.
And second, for the future… Where are you being called next? What voice are you ignoring and what is it telling you?
We have a home for you, and I hope you’ll come with us.
