The 3 Things I Did to EPICally Grow My Business... (and get abs)

I did a thing, recently, and it completely transformed my business and my body...

It kinda happened by accident and I want to tell you the story because if I had to guess, my fellow-strung-out-business owner, you might be missing out on some serious untapped potential.

I’m a mom of two toddlers (an “I can do it by myself” two-year-old and an adorable but opinionated one-year-old) and a business owner. Fellow mom bosses, I don’t need to spell this out for you, but for the sake of those who haven’t juggled those two worlds, I’m spread thin.

Ladies, question for you…

When we are juggling multiple balls, what’s the LAST thing to get our attention?

If you answered, “OURSELVES,” you are correct! But we are born superheroes, so we can do it all without taking a minute to take care of ourselves, right? That’s standard for when all of our worlds are pulling us in multiple directions, but what about when we are FOCUSED? What about when we have a project we’re working on, a goal we are locked in on, or a groove that we get into? What happens then?

For me, it means my own well being takes even more of a backseat the more I focus on my business goals. For years I acknowledged almost no correlation between my physiology and the success of my entrepreneurial goals.

I’d blame dips in my business on the market or failures along the way or on the stresses of running a seven-figure business all on my own. I’d get into such a level of focus with my work that I would almost PLAN on eating like crap for a while and skipping my workouts because I didn’t have time for it. For certain seasons – like during a launch or before a speaking gig – I focused on prioritizing my work and doing what I needed to be successful by not worrying about the other stuff.

And then I experienced the great burn out of 2016...

Y’all… it was epic.

I was in the zone. I was firing on all cylinders. I was pumped up about all of the things I was launching, the value I was creating and the content that I was going to pump out.

And then I hit my wall. Sinus infections. The flu. Exhaustion beyond compare. Brain fog. Weight gain. A re-shaping of my body to this weird, amoeba-like figure. And what went with all of that?

My confidence. My creativity. My drive. My energy. My vision.

Naturally, I knew the solution: more coffee. But when the crashes got harder and the fuzzy brain got more intense I had to make a change.  I started studying other successful entrepreneurs – attending their seminars and participating in their workshops – and there was one major area of focus that I had been willfully neglecting while naively assuming that it didn’t matter: MY HEALTH.

Every last one of these multi-million dollar moguls that I totally admired were not only following a rigorous plan for their fitness and nutrition, they were PRIORITIZING IT.  It came before speech prep, blog posts, course launches, seminars and book signings.  They had gone through a period, too, where they were cruising along, seeing success and then BOOM. Just like me, the crash came. They seemingly capped their potential and their growth because their bodies had caught up with them.

Ever try writing a book with complete brain fog? How about giving a speech after a sleepless night? The end result is limited, at best.

So that thing I did? I committed to leveling up my health, first and foremost, and literally found the DREAM plan for busy, strung-out entrepreneurs.

In three months I went from chubby caffeine addict to a fit, energized content machine. I committed to working out six days a week BEFORE allowing myself to work. I ate clean. I drank the world’s most nutritious shake every single day. I broke free of my food addictions (ummm, eat when you’re stressed, anyone?!).

It was like I was able to tap into a part of my brain that had been lying dormant beneath all of the wine and pizza that I consumed. I was more confident on stage, I was more focus when writing and I was more connected in the relationships that were paramount to my own success.

But the results were more than just conceptual…

Physically, I had transformed. Although I wasn’t doing it for the abs (hello, mom of two, here) I got them. I went to the doctor prior to starting my new plan to have her run some tests and I (and she) was astounded by my transformation upon follow-up. She had run a HRV (heart variability test) prior to my changing my regimen and within two months time my level of physical fitness increased by 72%.

My skin cleared up, I lost nine pounds, dropped 24+ inches and finally started sleeping at night. The all-too-common anxiety I would feel around a launch that left me with a heart arrhythmia disappeared and the joint pain (I’ve had multiple major knee surgeries) finally stopped plaguing me.

But let’s get down to brass tax, baby…

With the giant spike in my efficiency and productivity came a giant spike in my income! Never would I have thought that by prioritizing something other than my bottom line (and instead focusing more on the shape of my bottom) would I see such an increase in my income and business.

My bottom line...

I’m never going back to the way I did things before.

If we, as entrepreneurs, business owners, go-getters and big dreamers, think for a single second that we can neglect the vessel that gets us to where we ultimately want to go and still tap into our true potential (and earning power), we straight trippin’.

Our body is our business because WE are our business.

Hell, I’m IN the health industry and I STILL thought I could by-pass this one minor detail and still be abundantly prosperous (face-palm).

So, what did I DO to transform my body and business?

BeforeAfter80Days.PNG

Simple.

I followed a plan.

It’s what we do with everything else to find success, right? When we are writing that book that our publisher is impatiently waiting for, we use an outline. When we are taking the stage, we have bullet points we want to hit. When we’re hosting that webinar, we follow our notes. When we’re launching that course, we have a vision.

Why do we leave something as precious as our own health up to chance?

“Oh, I’m fine, I eat healthy.”
“I’m good. I workout!”

And yet we still feel like crap, look like garbage and produce as such.

I’ll show you my plan so you can get your go-getter paws on it and transform the way you feel, work and live, too!

ONE

I worked out from home. I used to be a gym-junkie, but that left too much room for excuse. The drive to and from felt like wasted time in the midst of a big launch, so I’d skip it. And when I did go, I was plan-less so I wasn’t pushing my body and keeping my muscles guessing in a way that actually created positive change in my body. This one switch allowed me to get super focused, it saved me a butt-load of money and time, and it took away my excuses. This is the system I used and it was a game-changer for me. There’s nothing more comprehensive out there and it’s by far the most affordable.

TWO

I followed a meal plan, not a diet. I’ve done plenty of different diets. It’s great for like, five minutes, and then you realize you feel jipped and you go from drinking kale to housing an entire pack of Oreos. I needed something efficient, effective and totally doable for a busy, working mom. I didn’t want to have to boil myself two ounces of free-range chicken while cooking a cheese-on-cheese casserole for the rest of the family. That’s part of the reason that I chose the online workout system that I did – it comes with meal plans. AMAZING meal plans. Simple meal plans. Lifestyle meal plans.

THREE

I drank a shake. Yup, I did it. Every day I popped out of bed and eagerly ran down to the kitchen to blend up the most heavenly shake you could ever imagine. It covered all of my bases (excellently sourced ingredients, made from fruits and veggies, loaded with nutrients, probiotics, antioxidants, fiber, protein and phytonutrients ((whatever those are)) and it was a major time and money saver. That’s liquid gold to a business owner!

I had done a lot of these things in the past and saw similar results, but it never fully clicked that in prioritizing my own health ahead of my work would positively affect my work. In fact, I thought the opposite to be true!

It wasn’t the products that were new to me (I’ve been loving on this stuff for a long time and lost my first fifty plus pounds with them), but it was HOW I was using them.

Whether you use the system I used (discounted here for my readers!) or you find your own method to your madness, give this theory a try. For a month (or two, or ten!) prioritize your own health. Optimize your body and it will perform for you in the office in ways you never knew possible!

Our bodies are the vessels we use to get to where we want to go in life – time for a tune up!
