Ep# 182: [Pep Talk] Get Uncomfortable

Elizabeth Hartke

Let’s talk about doing something new and uncomfortable.

I’m not necessarily just talking about your business. So much of finding success in entrepreneurship is about who you are becoming in the process.

We moved to Wisconsin almost three year ago now. My family is still wayyyy out in the Northeast. I’m very close and connected with my family, so this move has been tough. And with all of the nonsense that has happened in the last year, getting home to see them has been even harder than usual.

I recently planned a surprise trip out there with our oldest, Jack, who is five. The drive is about 20 hours. I was so anxious about the trip. But guess what: it turned out great. Jack was a dream and handled the drive like a champ.

I noticed as we were driving that with every passing hour, I was feeling more confident and empowered. I was doing something that I was uncomfortable with initially, but it became empowering as I realized that I could handle this trip and get to see my family. I also got some rare one-on-one time with my son.

I can do tough things. You can do tough things. We can do the things that we don’t want to do. We can even gain wisdom and confidence from doing these hard things.

What is it in your world that you’ve been avoiding or hesitating on? Put yourself in the position to make it happen and allow yourself to be empowered to a whole new level.
